The Holy Spirit (1:13), the third expression of the Trinity, enjoys a much shorter mention, mainly as a “seal” giving evidence that God’s saving grace has been extended to the individual: having believed in the gospel, they have been marked with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit. Paul describes the Spirit’s particular task as a deposit, guaranteeing our inheritance with God until the day His salvation plan is fulfilled in all believers by their resurrection to heaven.
